Great post! That’s exactly what I was thinking about the other day. I’m a bit guilty for this myself since I used to submit only Squidoo lenses to StumbleUpon back when I joined about half a year ago. Needless to say, I have a better understanding of social bookmarking now.

Those are very good points. What about that Giant Squid status thought? You can only get it if you have over 50 quality lenses, so I thought it might be worth having a lot of lenses in your account just for that.

Super ideas. I like the idea of asking guest to leave their URLs. I’m only six lenses into Squidoo, and still getting to know some of the other lensmasters. I like connections!

Hi Cheryl - I do think it’s tacky to ask people to rate your lens when they haven’t even gotten past the introduction module. It also looks bad to beg or whine for a rating.

However, I know some lensmasters like to ask for ratings in their guestbook module. I don’t see anything wrong with that as long as they do it nicely.

This is great information…I especially like the idea of a photo in the guestbook and am going to work on that.

I was under the impression that asking for ratings is bad form so I just removed those requests from my guest book. I do try to remember to rate lenses that I read and I don’t mind being reminded so maybe I’ll reconsider that bit.

Ron - Thanks! Yes, the guestbook is an essential module for sure.

Joan - Glad you found it helpful! Until recently I pretty much ignored the extra guestbook settings, but they’re handy if you have any lenses that become targeted by spammers.
